Non-recyclable packaging materials such as PET, PVC, polypropylene and polystyrene usually end up in landfills, and worse, in our rivers and oceans as pollutants that pose a threat to our environment and its inhabitants. These materials can take up to thousands of years to disintegrate completely, and as they do, release harmful toxic gasses.
Acknowledging its detrimental effects on the environment, Lexis Hotel Group is committed in doing our part in decreasing the use of non-recyclable packaging materials. In its place, we promote the usage of cardboard and biodegradable packaging materials for food items and guests’ amenities.
As a key player in the local hospitality industry, Lexis Hotel Group is using its platform to promote environmental conservation awareness by replacing small bottles with dispensers for guests’ personal care amenities (shampoos, conditioners & shower gels).
We also promote the use of biodegradable plastic bags that are certified as eco-friendly by Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) instead of regular petroleum-based ones.
Our hope is that our systematic approach will completely phase out non-recyclable packaging materials within the near future, and by doing so, leaving a minimal plastic footprint on our natural environment, resulting in more positive socio-ecological outcomes.
